Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral from my GP?
No! Many GPs will recommend Buteyko for asthma, but you do not need a referral from a doctor.

What can Buteyko treat?
Buteyko is best known for its impact on asthma but it is also effective for sleep apnoea, snoring, anxiety, panic attacks, rhinits, hayfever, allergies, bronchitis, bronchiectasis, COPD, sinusitis and chronic hyperventilation.

How does it work?
The Buteyko breathing technique works by reducing breathing volume to normalise blood gasses allowing for the effective utilisation of the oxygen in our blood. This is achieved through a series of breathing exercises combined with diet and lifestyle changes.

What happens if I cannot attend my appointment?
If you need to cancel an appointment we respectfully request that you give us 24 hours notice. All attempts will be made to facilitate missed sessions at a later date.

What should I wear?
Buteyko is a fully clothed treatment, just wear something comfortable.

How many treatments will I need?
A course of treatment takes five sessions lasting approximately one hour each. You will need to work and practice hard on your own after this but you shouldn't need any further consultations.

The practices are based in Wickford, Essex and Harlow, Essex and are easily accessable from Basildon, Billericay, Brentwood, Southend on Sea, Rayleigh, Benfleet, Chelmsford, Colchester, Bishops Stortford and Clacton.
